Around 1400 B.C. during the Bronze age Romans discovered the alloy by combining Copper and Zinc. The unique anti corrosive properties of the Alloy gave it widespread use in a multitude of applications, from armement to ornamentation. Growing up I equated Brass with resilience and purity. Brass was the holy grail of materials to me as a child; a humble gold in which permanence and quality were unmatched. As I age, I feel the corrosive effects of time on my body forcing me to examine my own mortality and impermanence. This body of work reflects my futile desire to create permanence through the medium. Mayan culture as well as Art Deco, Art Nouveau, nature, technology and the human body influence this series. I create purely from my imagination and find narratives by exploring the unique characteristics of the medium.
